Goddess Chant

Goddess Chant is a Mass to the Sacred, visioned and composed by Shawna Carol. It is a sung celebration dedicated to empowering women and honoring the Goddess in all beings.

The ritual is composed of songs that are both beautiful and easy to sing.

It can be done in different ways: as a large scale performance, a small scale performance, a 'one woman show' or as a circle ceremony.

Here is a video of a circle ceremony

Here is a video about doing it as a performance

As you scroll down this page, you will see a guide for creating Goddess Chant, including the songs, the script for the High Priestess (download script), and a brief description of each section.

For each song there are recordings so that you can easily learn them. (click here for chord charts)

(The ritual begins with a sung invocation of the Goddess. We say "I am" and "You are" so that we who hear this are each affirmed in our own divinity.)

High Priestess:
I am a Holy Woman. I am a Priestess of the Goddess of a thousand names and faces. I am the Trinity: the Triple Goddess, three in one. I am the maiden: young, innocent, a seed of all that is to come. I am the Mother, Creator of all. I am the Crone, the Ancient One who stands at the doorway between birth, death, and rebirth. I appear before you now as the Old One. For I’ve been here for all of time.

High Priestess:

I who am the beauty of the green earth

And the white moon among the stars

And the mystery of the waters,

I call upon your soul to arise and come unto me.

For I am the soul of nature that gives life to the universe.

From Me all things proceed and to Me they must return.

Let my worship be in the heart that rejoices,

for behold-

All acts of love and pleasure are My rituals.

Let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion,

Honor and humility, mirth and reverence within you.

And you who seek to know Me,

know that your seeking and yearning will avail you not,

unless you know the Mystery:

For if that which you seek,

you find not within yourself,

You will never find it without.

For behold,

I have been with you from the beginning

And I am that which is attained at the end of desire.

Spiritsinging is listening to the voice of Spirit and letting it express through you in sound without words. It is about choosing to say yes to what you want to create, empowering your vision instead of your fear. It is a choice to re-invent your life, with the sacred at the center. High Priestess:
In the traditional way, the Priestesses and Priests of old went into the sacred groves or to the mountains and entered into trance. There they would speak and sing as the Oracle. I call upon the ancient spirit of the Oracle - Be Here Now.

(The essential teaching of "The Charge of the Star Goddess" is that pleasure is a sacrament and holy. It challenges the notion that pleasure is sinful, as extensively taught in monotheism. All acts of love and pleasure are rituals of the Goddess. )

High Priestess:
I am the Temple Dancer. I am the Sacred Initiator of all that is erotic. I am the doorway to ecstasy.

(Every woman is the Goddess embodied. We heal from the excesses of patriarchy by praising her.)

High Priestess:
Every woman is the Goddess in body. The embodiment of the Divine. It’s time for us to remember. The moment has come, and a great healing is upon us. Recognizing and honoring the Divine Feminine, the Goddess, is one of the most powerful ways available to us for healing from the excesses of dominator culture. And to amplify this healing, we must praise what has been cast down. Praise your Sisters, praise your Daughters, praise your Mothers, praise Her.

(We let go of the past and release old limiting beliefs. We affirm the power of song to lift our spirits up. This is a rocking admonition to celebrate the Now.)

High Priestess:
Now that we’ve praised Her, there is no turning back. The past is over. It is time now to rise up and celebrate our return to the Goddess in all Her many forms.

High Priestess:
It is the end of the Patriarchy, the dark times. It is always darkest before the dawn. From the depth of this night, the enlightened times are coming. By the power of my word, I call forth the return of the light. Blessed Be.

High Priestess:
Embrace into your heart the light of the Goddess we have invoked. We return to being still and listening as we release the directions. And then we will celebrate with one more song.

(This prayer is an invocation that all people abide in love and unity as we create a partnership society and turn from empire to Earth community.)

High Priestess:
The Goddess is walking among us. The feminine values rise again. Celebrating Her helps heal and balance male and female power on the planet. We are transitioning to a culture that cares for its children, respects its elders, and chooses nonviolence. We are building a partnership between the Sacred Feminine and the Sacred Masculine – the Goddess and the God.

We call upon all people of all genders. Let us look in our hearts and find the Goddess within us, to honor and protect her, and to nurture the sparks of the Mother within our own hearts. Please join us for this final invocation. May we be a Sisterhood and Brotherhood in Love.

High Priestess:
Let's join hands.  Thank you for coming. Thank you, spirits of this land. Thanks to all, seen and unseen, who made this offering possible.  As a priestess of the Goddess, it is my prayer that we may embrace the Divine Feminine and come into loving relationship with our Mother, the Earth. We dedicate this ceremony to the Goddess in Her many forms.

We are changed.  We have raised the energy of the Goddess. Let us affirm the intention to carry this energy with us out into the world. Follow me as we raise our hands and say together one final “Blessed Be.”
